KJV Hebrews 13:2 says,
"Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."
Angel Unaware is a book by Dale Evans, written in the early 50s, I imagine. My mother read it to my sister and I when I was in kindergarten, and it impacted me for the rest of my life.
It is the story of Dale Evans and Roy Roger's daughter, who was born blue. She only lived a few years, and died much too soon, but Dale tells the story in a way that helps the reader understand in a comforting way why God allows such sadness to occur.
Dale tells the narrative as the child, sitting on God's lap and explaining to Him what happened. It is heartbreaking and profound and must be read by every Mom, everywhere.
It was an impactful way for the story to be told, Dale needed to tell the tale, and I'm sure Roy Rogers healed from the sharing of their trauma that way as well.
Dale & Roy Rogers were on Hee-Haw this past week, and they were glorious to see and hear, of course. Yes. I love to watch Hee-Haw because it's on in that hour between 3 and 4 o'clock when there is really nothing else on. (I do watch Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, but they have too many repeats, and now I know all the answers, lollylamb.)
Back to Angel Unaware, it is the point of the book to let us know that we never are conscious of who we are holding, hugging or being kind to, they might be angels...and this little angel brought so much joy and peace to her mama and daddy, she certainly was a blessing.
Now, you might be thinking what the hell does that have to do with the price of tea in China? Well boil that down to today, how does that impact me or us today?
Are we going to be hospitable to someone on the bus that does not look like us?
Are we going to open the door for the man who was rude to us earlier, but who is in a wheelchair?
Are we going to be judgmental?
Are we going to celebrate our veterans this weekend, or are we going to ignore them when we see them in the street with a sign, wanting money? Or become deaf to their pleas to exchange bread for cigarettes...?
Are we going to thank and hug every veteran we know?
I certainly hope so,
peace,
Kimmy
