Sensational Filly DEVIL MAY CARE Sparks Derby Rumors

DEVIL MAY CARE, a filly who has not raced against the colts but has been quite impressive in her workouts alongside the males may be this year's Derby surprise.  She's earned $363,000 in graded stakes money, which places her well within the top 20 of this year's 3-year-old Thoroughbreds.

Trainer Todd Pletcher said the decision would be made by John Greathouse, whose Glencrest Farm owns DEVIL MAY CARE.   Greathouse must decide which fee to pay: the fee for entering a filly in the Oaks is $2,500 and the fee for entering a colt or filly the Kentucky Derby is $25,000.

However, my sources tell me that the filly has been so unbelievably strong in her workouts against the colts, there's quite a buzz going around about the possibility that DEVIL MAY CARE will run in the Kentucky Derby.  Gotta love a filly that hands the colts their ass every now and then, even if it is 'just' in the workouts.  She is another horse who may benefit from the extra yardage the Derby will afford her to win the race.

Another reason I like her is that her mama's name is KELLI'S RANSOM.  Kelli is my baby sister's name, and it's spelled the same way, so I am definitely going to be keeping a sisterly eye on her, especially if she should make it to the starting gate on May 1.

DEVIL MAY CARE has been ridden in most of her starts by John Velazquez, but Velazquez has already committed to ride favorite ESKENDEREYA in the Derby.
