Musician, Heal Thyself...and Others! - Overture to Healing

Musician, heal thyself...and others!

Surround yourself in soothing music this weekend and as you experience a musical presentation  by University of Kentucky School of Music and UK HealthCare, an Overture to Healing Concert, featuring violinist virtuoso, Nadia Salerno-Sonnenberg.

As most of you know, I am a big believer in the healing power of the arts, whether it be in writing, visual arts, any sort of creative effort, but especially, I love and know that music can soothe my spirit when all else fails.

So imagine how happy I was to see that this concert will raise money for Kentucky’s first graduate-level music therapy program! Overture to Healing is the creation of the University of Kentucky’s Lucille Caudill Little Performing Arts in HealthCare Program.

This program is a joint initiative of UK HealthCare and the UK School of Music, and recognizes the arts and artists as powerful entities that serve as a positive force in the healing process for all patients and their families.

"Overture to Healing," will feature the internationally acclaimed classical violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra

Salerno-Sonnenberg is recognized as one of the world's preeminent violinists, a former Avery Fisher Prize winner and has been a guest on such shows as NBC's The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, CBS' 60 Minutes, Nightwatch, Sesame Street and Sunday Morning

She has performed at the White House and collaborated with such artists as Mandy Patinkin, Joe Jackson, Judy Blazer, Janice Siegel, the Assad brothers, Mark O'Connor and Roger Kellaway.

The Lexington Philharmonic presents more than 150 concerts and educational programs annually designed to reach a variety of musical tastes and a vast range of ages.  New Music Director and Conductor Scott Terrell, still in his first year with the Lexington Philharmonic, has already led the orchestra to greater artistic heights, and has big plans for the orchestra's future!

This concert's program will include "Polovetsian Dances" from the opera "Prince Igor," composed by Alexander Borodin, "Four Season of Buenos Aires," composed by Astor Piazzolla, and "Pictures at an Exhibition," composed by Modest Mussorgsky.

Tickets for the Saturday, April 17 event are $100 each and include a champagne reception at concert intermission at the Singletary Center. A processing fee will be added upon completion of transaction. Tickets can be purchased through the Singletary Center Ticket Office at (859) 257-4929, online at http://tinyurl.com/OverturetoHealingConcert, or in person at the ticket office.
