Rosemary Clooney Highway

by Kim Thomas

Rosemary Clooney fans, take heart. I am resurrecting my effort to have a Kentucky highway named after my favorite singer. This morning I was lucky enough to be Mick Jeffries' guest as he hosted his Trivial Thursdays show on WRFL-FM here in Lexington and once our conversation turned to Rosemary Clooney, the phone started ringing with folks wanting to tell us how much they love Rosie.

As a writer and blogger and twitterer, it's very cool to be given a voice on a venue like Mick's show. I was honored to do it, and plus, it sure was fun! Now that I know I'm not the only one that love, love, LOVES Rosemary Clooney, I have a renewed and recharged interest in making my Rosemary Clooney Highway project become a reality.

WRFL is located in the University of Kentucky Student Center, and Mick has hosted this show for nearly 8 years. He has an ease about him that immediately made me comfortable, and I settled in to listen to a variety of songs both old and new. All the songs related to certain events that occurred in history on today July 23.

Surprising to me was that Woody Harrelson AND his father, Charles Harrelson were both both on July 23. Also, July 23 is the day that the first typewriter, in this case called a typographer, was invented. Ford Motor Company sold its first car on July 23.

Lots of July 23 happenings, right?

Well, if you want to hear more, just click here, and you can enjoy the entire broadcast:

Thanks, Mick, for asking me to be your special guest today! Despite my having to go back home and turn the tea kettle off, I got there on time, enjoyed a cuppa joe, and had a chance to exchange a few ideas before we went on the air.

Anyone who loves history and the oddities of life should listen to Mick's Trivial Thursdays show each week from 7am to 9am. He puts his heart and soul into the broadcast, which is readily apparent. Tune in and see...or should I say 'hear' how all the music is connected to the trivia of the day.
