That Day

Twenty years ago today. I heard the news from Nick Clooney and to learn disquieting news from him was rough but I'm very glad that indeed I had my radio tuned to his morning radio show!

I was working at the law firm of Clark and Ward and the old Victorian Square building.

I immediately went and told Mr.  Ward, who had a television set, and the entire office gathered there to see the second plane hit! I'm not kidding, by that moment, several of the office had expressed their opinion that the explosion was caused by Bill Clinton!

I really never got along with many people in that firm, probably because I'm a Democrat. At any rate, the terrible news continued as we listened to the anchors of the day tell us of the news.

My former boss from Stites & Harbison, Lloyd Chatfield, had been in the World Trade Center just a week before. I had a lifelong friend in Manhattan who'd gone into labor. My heart was in turmoil, but I was fortunate. Both lived to tell me about it.

Courtney Hunt had her baby, and named her Wilder, who today turns 20.

My husband had called to tell me of the other planes at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania.

We all felt a sense of despair and fear. It was a terrible day.

There are no words to describe the awfulness of September 11. There is only a way to show our compassion throughout our lives.

Where there is hatred, indeed let me show love.

Lord, dry my tears and help me see love today. ❤
