Today, the Kentucky Derby ran, and Bob Baffert trained horses seem to win more than any other trainer. I am not all that happy that it was a Baffert horse, but Medina Spirit was ridden by John Velasquez, a jockey who has won 3 times before in the Derby and is an excellent jockey to honor that run for the roses.
Ten years ago, I attended the Derby, and my job that day was to press the shutter button for Z's starting gate camera. On my way to the starting gate, I walked past a cute little guy and asked him if he knew who was gonna win the Derby.
He puffed his chest out, stood up tall and said, "yes, my daddy is going to win the Derby!"
His daddy rode ANIMAL KINGDOM, and came in 1st over the finish line for that day's run for the roses, and I adored that little curly headed boy who told me his daddy was going to win the Derby that he certainly won.
The Derby is always a source for a great heartwarming story.
