It was an awakening weekend in that the NBA boycott drew global attention to the search for justice and diversity. The NBA leads the way, as always. We are having one of the biggest elections ever witnessed by this great country of ours, and the NBA is setting the tone for the nation. Not Washington, the N-B- freaking-A.
The MTV Awards show was last night, Sunday, and I think only Lady Gaga appeared and performed live. She won awards, too, along with Miley and her mirror ball. Meanwhile, around the world, people still protested following the shooting of Jacob Blake.
Jacob lived, and was rushed to the hospital, of course, but put in shackles and chained to his bed, although he is in seriously debilitated condition and oh, yeah, he is under arrest, the cops say. To add insult to everything else, they have to do that.
There have been an inordinate number of black people killed since January by police for seemingly no reason. It's been happening for 400 years, but black people today have the power to take back their dignity and fight for the justice they have deserved for hundreds of years. As Will Smith said, the only difference is now the police brutality and destruction of black people is being filmed. That's true, that's the difference now: the world is witness to the violence brought upon African Americans in our country by officers of "the law."
It IS coming to a head and I tell you what, I feel the tension. I feel like a big old zit just waiting to be popped; or settle itself in and shrink inside my own middle. Boy wouldn't that be wonderful? My middle could use some shrinking about right now...
Something else that has been not such great news this weekend is the arrival of Laura. Laura is a big ol' hurricane that hit Texas and Louisiana, combined with another hurricane -- I don't know if I ever heard the name of that one, but Texas is getting hit by both of those hurricane streams...the leftovers of them, anyway.
It is early in the morning on Monday, I have not slept for 4 days, and today I intend to do something about it. I hope I sleep sometime today, and I hope you do too, Lambchop. Please pray for our nation and our world, and I will pray for you.
Peace,
Kimmy
