ICE BOX Heats Up Derby Field

ICE BOX, a colt by PULPIT and out of the mare SPICE ISLAND (by TABASCO CAT) will most likely not be a longshot when he runs in the Kentucky Derby next Saturday.  He was 20 to 1 when he surprised everyone and won the Florida Derby a few weeks ago - going from dead last to first with Jose Lezcano aboard.

Trainer Nick Zito trains the big chestnut for owner Robert LaPenta. LaPenta bought ICE BOX as a yearling for $125,000 and is sure to be encouraged at the horse's progress over the spring. ICE BOX finished 5th in the Fountain of Youth Stakes, however he rebounded quickly and showed the Florida crowd that he can run with the best of the 3-year-old Thoroughbreds.

What I like about this horse is that he came from behind to win, when it seemed that all hope was lost.
