Light the Candle of Joy

At six o'clocky tonight, I will witness one of the most heart warming events of the Season when Victorian Square here in Lexington is turned into an old fashioned celebration of Christmas Carols by the Lexington Singers and their children's choir, as well as the talented folks from UK Opera Theatre, Alluring Community Handbell Ensemble with the magnificent tenor Gregory Turay.

It's so much better to concentrate on the Joy of the holidays instead of worrying about who did what to whom and why certain people should be forgiven, others not - to all of that malarkey, I just wanna say: meh...so what?

I am a redeemed and forgiven child of God...and so are you. Let's stop our snarking and all the pontificating about what we like and don't like.  It's not about you, believe it or not, it's about Jesus. It's about God. It's about Mary and Joseph and O Little Town of Bethlehem, already.  So smile and enjoy the Christmas festivities that abound all around us, and give the gift of forgiveness to yourself. You'll be glad you did :)

Today we lit the Candle of Joy in worship, so I am going to share a prayer for your holiday edification. I hope you love it as much as I do:

"God of joy and exultation,
You strengthen what is weak;
You enrich the poor and give hope to those who live in fear.
Look upon our needs this day.
Make us grateful for the good news of salvation
and keep us faithful in your service
until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who lives forever and ever.
Amen."
