And So This Is Christmas...

Sometimes our pursuit of the happiness we want during the Holidays brings to the fore "the hopes and fears of all the years," but oftentimes our effort revolves less around the hopes than it does the fears we have of not fulfilling the Season's expectations.
That's why I'm glad there are going to be a few opportunities to kindle the spirit and keep it alive this December.
This Sunday, December 20, an Inter-Generational Christmas story time and carol sing will be held at 9:30 a.m.at Central Christian Church. The annual event is open to everyone, from the youngest to oldest as music director Michael Rintamaa leads some of the best-loved Christmas Carols and senior minister Michael Mooty will read from a few of his favorite Christmas books. It is a wonderful way to spend some time of fun and fellowship.

Also, the Southern Lights and Cincinnati Zoo's Festival of Light are on display through the New Year and I hear they are both spectacular.

If you are looking for an alternative way to observe the new year to come, you can attend the Winter Solstice Service jointly hosted by Central Christian Church and NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). Since it has been scheduled close to the shortest day of the year, the Solstice Service provides a time for reflection without the added expectation of the holiday spirit, which can be a very difficult expectation for those who have lost a loved one, are on a challenging personal journey, or who feel the cultural "hype" of the season makes it difficult to be present with God.  All are welcome to join in at 5pm on Sunday, December 20, for a contemplative, quiet time apart. The service will be in the Commons Room, on the second floor of Central, located at the corner of Martin-Luther King and Short Street. You may call the Central office at 233-1551 for more information.

O Holy Night

Experience the joy of Christmas in an inspirational but low key atmosphere -- especially comforting for those who may not have a church home or who may be away from home on Christmas Eve -- at 6pm and 11pm, there will be a candlelight service at Central, with soloist Tom Bragg singing "O Holy Night" and Rachele Snellgrove performs "Breath of Heaven."

Angelic music will be provided by Sally Kelton on the harp!

Stay tuned, I'll keep you updated throughout the next few weeks!  And keep praying for peace on earth,

loves,

Kimmy
