News From Duncan Park

Friday Night at Stage One in Duncan Park
news from the North Limestone Neighborhood Association:
I just received this via email and want everyone to know the good news that is happening on North Lime these days.
There are people who care, and who do something about it. The City is behind them and they are making a success out of their efforts.

Here's Bill Pickering's report:
Around 6pm, Mayor Jim Newberry announced the band -- Tee Dee -- and recognized the people for building the permanent stage at Duncan Park.
There were somewhere between 400 to 500 people in attendance, a recognizable diversity of race, age and sex were there – reflective of our community – everyone was smiling – reminiscent of the mural on Al’s Bar wall with kids laughing out front.
Lexington's public access Channel 3 was there recording as hundreds of attendees helped themselves to vegetables from the N. Limestone community garden, along with hundreds of hot dogs which were also given out for free, however many people wanted to pay, according to the number of community volunteers who helped with the concessions, and to whom we are grateful for their continued gifts of their time to build community.
Here's more good news: there were "No incidences, not a hitch, a positive experience all the way around – it was a beautiful thing."
Parks and Recreation had a presence during the entire event, offering their support along with the Lexington’s Lions Club members who were there, encouraged and enjoyed the gathering's music.
"The crowd mixed and greeted each other, the Mayor was smiling, taking pictures, mixing with the crowd through the whole concert.  The band was hot, as Tee Dee and his wife Angelica Young came down into the audience to sing and play guitar.  Tee Dee allowed the kids to strum his guitar.  Tee Dee greeted other community artists and invited them up on stage to sing and play.  Our community shined 09/04/09."
Neighborhood Association Leaders were also there and were pleased there were volunteers who gave of their time gathering community input on what they want to see in the future programming and design of stage.  The concessions were handled by community volunteers as well, reflecting an air that was truly community, family friendly and artist friendly: the Artists were valued and paid.
Friday was perfect weather, great first crowd!
