Legacy Trail Logo Selected

The Community Has Spoken; Legacy Trail Logo Selected

(pick up an issue of Ace Weekly for the full story)

LEXINGTON – The winner of the Legacy Trail logo contest was announced last night at Thursday Night Live with much fanfare including drums and a call to the post by Keeneland bugler Bucky Sallee. The logo called Hills was chosen to represent the Trail, winning by a margin of more than two-thirds. The terrain inspired graphic implies motion and its blue and green shapes represent the sky and land separated by the representation of the Trail.

“With movement and fitness, environment and nature, and community connection as main goals of the Legacy Trail, the logo finalists were designed to stand the test of time and be relevant long into the future,” Steve Austin, Blue Grass Community Foundation’s Legacy Center director, said. “This one certainly does all of those things. We’re beginning to feel the excitement build as more people learn about the Trail and get involved. It is so different from anything our community has and will be a huge asset for tourism and local connectivity.”

The recreational trail will run nine miles from the Kentucky Horse Park to the Isaac Murphy Memorial Art Garden at 3rd and Midland. There are no other trails in Fayette County that include urban, suburban and rural settings. The Trail is fully funded after the recent receipt of state funds, and a trail blazing event is scheduled for October to celebrate the upcoming construction.

Logo contest voters had the opportunity to register for prize drawings and those winners were announced Thursday night as well. A $500 gift certificate from Pedal the Planet was awarded to Jean Sabharwal, a $250 gift certificate from John’s Run/Walk Shop went to Laura Farnsworth and Holly Hodge won a $100 gift certificate from J&H Outfitters.
