Triple Tiara Begins, Rachel Alexandra in Mother Goose

Everybody's favorite filly, RACHEL ALEXANDRA today will compete against only handful of others today at 5:15 in The Mother Goose Stakes (G-I) race for three-year-old fillies at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York.

It should be easy for the big girl to race on dirt at Belmont as she begins her quest to win the the first part of the fillies feat called the Triple Tiara of Thoroughbred Racing
.

The race was named for H.P. Whitney's filly, MOTHER GOOSE, one of only thirteen fillies to have ever won the male-dominated Belmont Futurity Stakes.

News from Belmont is that Rachel Alexandra also has been having light workouts in the early mornings. This is a testament to the way her owners and trainers respect this girl, and don't want to overwork her.

Expected to face the big filly today are FLASHING, who recently won the Nassau County Stakes (G-3), DON'T FORGET GIL, winner of the Grade 3 Florida Oaks (G-3) and MALIBU PRAYER, who has won her last 2 races by a combined 20 lengths.

So, only three fillies running for place money, because Rachel Alexandra will most likely go off at 1 to 9, and with the rest and good care she's received since the winning the Preakness by an astounding 20 lengths. It is cool to see this talented horse being managed by the class act that is made up of trainer Steve Asmussen and owner Jess Jackson. Her previous trainer Hal Wiggins handled the filly wonderfully, but her prior owners were a bit too conservative, and didn't showcase her as she should be. For a sport with waning attendance, and suffering from too much competition, a horse like her brings wonderful attention to the sport of horseracing and could help return it its halcyon days of old.

RACHEL ALEXANDRA'S dominating Preakness win was the talk of the horse world and as that story crossed into the mainstream media, it gave the Thoroughbred horse industry a much needed boost of publicity.

"She looks unbeatable, really, with fillies," said trainer Mark Hennig, who will saddle Florida Oaks winner Don't Forget Gil against Rachel Alexandra. "I thought Mine That Bird was taking a pretty good run at her, but we're not running Mine That Bird."

pray for peace, y'all,

Kimmy
