Load the Musket, Man...

by Kim Thomas

Musket Man is another dark bay colt (out of the Fortunate Prospect mare, Fortuesque) whose impressive race record has led him to Churchill Downs for the first Saturday in May.

Jockey Eibar Coa will get the mount again for this son of Yonaguska after riding him to victory in the Grade II Illinois Derby, which put the horse in more than good standing for a shot at the Kentucky Derby on Saturday.

Musket Man was purchased for only $35,000 at Fasig-Tipton as a 2-year-old (but first sold as a yearling at Keeneland for only $15,000). However, he has more than earned his keep for owners Eric Fein & Vic Carlson, winning over a $500,000. He has proven ability to run the long distance as well as come from behind.

pray for peace, y'all,
Kimmy
