ESSENTIAL QUALITY Eyeballs Derby
In my never-ending quest to avoid boredom, I have decided to begin blogging about the Derby!
Even though the first Saturday in May is quite a bit away, it is fun to see who may be in the running and who is at the top of the list. First of all is MANDALOUN, the bay colt which I've already blogged about, and now I see ESSENTIAL QUALITY is the next horse on the experts' list and he is also trained by Brad Cox.
ESSENTIAL QUALITY with jockey Luiz Saez aboard won the prestigious Breeders Cup Juvenile G-1 at Keeneland. That was another notch in EQ's undefeated year.
What do I like about this horse? First of all, his daddy, TAPIT, was almost a solid white or light gray horse! Also, TAPIT stands at Gainesway Farm, where I used to work and learned more about the horse business than anybody ever wanted to know.
God bless those who work at the horse farms, including our migrant farm workers who are probably undocumented. I pray for them in weather like this, and in the winter when I know the horses are foaling their babies.
Who do you think watches the mares at night when it is time for them to foal their babies? It is not somebody with a western accent, let me just tell you. It is probably somebody from Mexico, who is working here illegally, and works harder than 10 white people. I really hope and pray that with the new Administration, they will find peace and find a path to citizenship which they certainly deserve.
peace,
Kimmy
