Will Pletcher Rule the Derby?

Could this finally be the year Todd Pletcher makes it to the winner's circle when the Kentucky Derby is run at Churchill Downs on May 1?  After years of second- and third-placed Derby finishes, a big dark bay/brown colt named RULE just might cinch the elusive garland of roses for the popular trainer.

RULE is by ROMAN RULER (son of Derby winner FUSAICHI PEGASUS) and out of the mare ROCKCIDE.  He is proving he has what it takes by going wire-to-wire, setting records, and earning more than $716,700 for his owners at Winstar Farm.

In his most recent outing at Tampa Bay Downs in the Sam F. Davis Stakes (Gr. III), RULE was ahead at every turn of the 1 1/6 mile race, and although briefly challenged by SCHOOLYARD DREAMS, he still won by more than 3 lengths.

Watch out for this gorgeous guy as the Derby prep races continue.  I will soon have photos of all the Derby contenders as I blog my way to Spring and all the delights that follow.
