Two Can Be As Bad As One...

Over 70 years ago, a once-in-a-lifetime event happened when, after much ballyhoo and hubbub, the legendary match race between SEABISCUIT and WAR ADMIRAL finally happened, and according to lore, our nation was lifted from its Depression, orchestras played, the team won one for the Gipper, and hope was restored to the faint of heart.

This year, a match race has been scheduled at Oaklawn Park and set for mid-April (amid Keeneland, which to me is a sacrilege) for a similar race between last year's Julie and Julia of horse racing, RACHEL ALEXANDRA and ZENYATTA.  This race, too, is cleverly contrived and plucks at the heartstrings of all who want something good to come out of all the chaos.  Perhaps we will unite as a nation as we gather the family around the plasma screen and have a big ol' slice of apple pie whilst doing so.

I do hope with the eyes of the world upon these two fabulous fillies, indeed it will be realized by those who eschew Thoroughbred racing that it's possible to embrace this somewhat intimidating Sport of Queens without losing a penny of money or an ounce of conscience.

After all, by then, the Final Four will have come and gone and Kentucky fans will either be delighted and ready to deify Coach Calipari, or they will be ready to send him packing.  The Derby will be well on its way and the Cincinnati Reds will most likely have already lost a few games.  Only one thing is for certain, and that is that I will be watching these two supergirls race, and I'm hoping they will live up to their hype, and compete against each other with the dignity they've shown while the colts were having their asses handed to them last year by two horses of The Gender that is generally considered the weaker.  Giddy yup!

Mayhap a lot of good things will follow: our healthcare system will correct itself, the Mancession will recede along with the hairlines that seem to dominate the social skyline, and my knight in shining armor will ride up on his white horse, whisk me up and carry me away into the sunset (hope he's strong, coz it's gonna be hard to get that whisking part accomplished).

Stay tuned...coz anything can happen when Power Pretties get together, right?

pray for peace, lambchops,
Kimmy
