What Will Happen to the old Spaldings Doughnuts Building? Be there for the discussion!

by Kim Thomas

The North Limestone Neighborhood Association invites everyone in the area to a meeting that will double as a potluck gathering this Monday, August 10, 2009.

(the mural shown by Mike Burrell will be discussed at the meeting as well -- you can see the mural anytime on the side of Al's Bar at 6th & Lime :)

You can bring a dish and a friend, if you can – or just come and meet your neighbors. The meeting will be held at Al’s Bar, on the corner of North Limestone and Sixth Street, from 6:30 – 8:00.

It’s more of a social gathering than a meeting, but on the agenda will be the monthly neighborhood crime report by Officer Penix, a film presentation regarding the Community Mural process on the Wall of Al’s Bar; and a discussion about the photos of stage build at Duncan Park this past week and to share programming ideas for the stage at Duncan Park.

What else, you may ask? Al’s Bar owner Les Miller will Discuss Community Day Celebration, where 6th Street is blocked off for a Community Party – Sept 18, 2009 – 4:00 till dark then move into Al’s Bar; and Chad Needham will also discuss the future of the old Spalding’s Doughnuts building.

Also you will want to note that the Citizens’ Leadership Academy starts August 25, 2009. This is a great program and it is free to the public. Call Sherry Maddock 859 285-0189 to find out all this series that will help train our future leaders in the North Limestone neighborhood.
