Mine That Bird's Feathers Seem Unruffled

by Kim Thomas

Mine That Bird, another son of Birdstone, will be running on Saturday at Churchill Downs and his Trainer, Bennie "Chip" Woolley, Jr., is optimistic about the Canadian champion gelding: “He does everything right, every time. He’s not a problem horse at all. He might stop and look at things, but other than that nothing bothers him. He just stands there and takes it all in.”
He will be the first Derby starter for Woolley as well as owners Mike Allen and Dr. Leonard Blach, who are from New Mexico.

Mine that Bird won the Grade III Grey Stakes, but he has not won since, although did place second in Sunland Park’s Borderland Derby by a neck.
