Ya Gotta Have Heart

by Kim Thomas

A big smile broke out all across the Bluegrass yesterday when Billie Gillispie’s University of Kentucky men's basketball team proved to all the naysayers that indeed, they can play as well as any other team in the SEC.

UK played with determination, forcing turnovers, grabbing rebounds, and generally getting up in Mississippi States's grill. UK showed they have plenty of heart as they more or less manhandled Mississippi State into submission, forcing them to turn the ball over 11 times in only the second half. "That was really the difference in the game," Gillispie said. "We were a little more disruptive than we have been."

With Kentucky’s record now at 20-12, I hope Billie Gillispie had a good night’s sleep last night, because there’s a lot of work ahead, and he needs his rest so he can focus. If Coach is focused, perhaps that will instill confidence in his players; and if the players are confident, they might just have the ambition and drive to stay riled up for another win, and earn another few days to enjoy th
e sunny Tampa weather. My hope is that after all is said and done, Billy G. will continue to smile, and perhaps he will be able to hold a press conference with no need for post-game apologies.
