Big Blue Wins Again!

by Kim Thomas

I don't know what's going to happen to the University of Kentucky men's basketball team, but if Billy Gillispie can pull off a win like he did tonight, it is my hope that Joe Dumbass will stop calling the sports radio shows and complaining, even if it's just for a little while.

You know Joe Dumbass, don't you? He and his twin sister, Jenny Dittohead, will likely be critical of every step Coach G takes from here until he takes off for the pastures of another highbrow university basketball program in need of someone with a thick skin and enough charm to recruit the more selective high school roundball stars. Roundball, did I just say that? I did, didn't I? Oh my gosh, I have become my father...he'd be so proud :)

Accordingly, it must be said, then, that I have watched my family adjust their busy schedules for decades, many decades, ever since I can remember to accommodate the UK basketball schedule. I would never dream of calling my friends (most or many of them, anyway) during a UK game. It's just unheard of, and apart from that, it's just not ladylike to interfere with anyone's adoration of the Cats. I doubt any good employer in Kentucky would allow anyone to really work and not have access to at least the audio of the game this Wednesday that UK will play in the next round of the National Invitational Basketball Tournament.

Tonight when they defeated a very good Creighton squad, the UK team that some fans were classless enough to boo actually thumbed their collective noses at the status quo and snatched Victory from the Jaws of Defeat. Finally. So turn up your televisions, your radios and put on your best blue and white for the next game in the N.I.T. when the University of Kentucky Wildcats will play Notre Dame. If they beat the Irish, they will then travel to the Big Apple to fight for another championship. I don't care if it IS the 'just' the N.I.T., let's we just cannot ignore that Billy has smiled his way through all the call-in creeps and couch coaches who've called for his head on a platter. There's something to love about there, and although I can't quite put my finger on it, I love it anyway. Go Billy G! Go Cats!

Defeating Creighton was a good win.

That doesn't change the fact that BCG is a very flawed coach. IMHO
